The Center for Political Thought and Leadership (CPTL) invites ASU students, staff and faculty, and the community to join us for conversations concerning civic life, education, and leadership. The CPTL hosts a wide array of civic education events including question and answer panels, movie nights, and community discussions.

Sandra Day O'Connor Week

Join us next week for our first annual Sandra Day O'Connor Week! The Sandra Day O'Connor Institute for American Democracy was founded by Former U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor and is headquartered here in Phoenix, Arizona.

Our week of virtual events will include:

  • Jack Holder's experience as a surviving WWII veteran and being stationed at Pearl Harbor during the 1941 attack.
  • Discussions on how the CPTL works closely with veterans across the country with the Veteran's Inspiring Patriotism (VIP) program and our Veteran Heritage Project (VHP) student organization.
  • A look at our civic engagement programs for educators, students, and community members, including the Arizona Constitution Project (AZCP), the Civic Literacy Curriculum (CLC), and the Civic Leadership Institute (CLI).
The Institute's mission is to "continue Justice Sandra Day O’Connor’s legacy and lifetime work to advance American Democracy through civics education, civic engagement and civil discourse". This directly parallels our goals as a center as well!
